The OKC Thunder have officially been done with their 2020-21 campaign for just over two weeks now and, with this, they have officially embarked on an offseason filled with wonderment and the potential for great success.
After a literal coin flipped their way, Oklahoma City now finds itself with the fourth-best odds of landing the top spot in this year’s NBA Draft, while also holding a 52.5 percent chance of finding themselves falling into the top-5 selections on the night.
On top of this, Sam Presti and co. will have a tremendous amount of cap flexibility this offseason, as they could find themselves coming into possession of more than $55 million in salary space to utilize on the free agent market if they so choose to go this route.
No matter which way you look at it, one thing is certainly for sure — this summer could see quite a few talent upgrades for the OKC Thunder.
Now, should they actually look to the free agent pool and pursue some of this year’s available talents, it’s almost a guarantee that the franchise will not be in the running for the top names on the open market for, even when they were legitimately competing for championships, they were never a prime destination for such players.
Instead, the front office may have to look to the less sought-after names should they wish to be active participants in this field during the summer.
