This coming offseason has the potential to be an absolutely successful time period for the OKC Thunder.

On top of the fact that they’ll have the most spending power in the entire league at their disposal, with up to $55 million in cap space, Oklahoma City comes into the summer of 2021 with two first-round picks coming their way, with their own selection having the fourth-best odds of slotting in at the top spot on the night and a 52.5 percent chance of landing within the top-5.

Should luck be on their side, Sam Presti and co. could realistically be seeing 2 picks landing within the top-5 should the ping pong balls bounce both their way as well as away from Houston (OKC own Rockets’ rights if it falls out of the top-4).

While there is a strong possibility that we will see the franchise nabbing at least one selection in the top-5, based on recent iterations of NBA Mock Drafts the Thunder seem to be falling farther and farther away from their desired draft night destinations and, recently, saw themselves missing out on Houston’s pick while also falling to the bottom of the top-5 with their own selection.

Specifically, in Bleacher Report’s recent mock, the OKC Thunder find themselves slotted in at the fifth slot on the night where, in turn, we see them taking G League Ignite star, Jonathan Kuminga.

Citing his scoring versatility coupled with his impressive frame, writer Jonathan Wasserman believes the forward could be viewed as a “cornerstone scorer” by the team’s front office:

"Impressive physically, the athletic, 6’6″, 210-pound combo also stands out for his creation and shot-making skills from the post, mid-range and three. He still has to improve his shooting consistency and shot selection, but for an 18-year-old, Oklahoma City will buy his 15.9 points per game in the G League bubble and the large window to sharpen his jumper and decision-making.A nucleus of Kuminga, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Pokusevski and Luguentz Dort would ultimately possess an appealing mix of offensive and defensive upside."

Now, while many OKC Thunder fans would love to see a G League Ignite star making his way towards the Sooner State this July, typically it’s in reference to Kuminga’s partner-in-crime, Jalen Green.

Still, winding up with the 18-year-old is certainly not a bad reality for fans to ponder on either
