This summer, the OKC Thunder are bound to be quite a busy organization.

The first main activity on their agenda will be the 2021 NBA Draft, which is slated to commence on July 29th.

During this event, Sam Presti and co. will find themselves on the board twice within the first round, as they hold the rights to their own selection (fourth-best odds of landing the top slot) and will be able to claim the rights to the more valuable pick between the Houston Rockets’ (top-4 protected) and Miami Heat’s.

After this, the next key date on the docket will be the kick-off to free agency, where, during this time period, the OKC Thunder will hold the most spending power on the open market, as they could find themselves coming into possession of around $55 million in spending money.

On top of all this, for a large chunk of the offseason, the trade market will be opened back up, meaning the franchise could find itself with three separate routes in which they could embark on to add on some new faces to the roster come the start of next season.

Ultimately, however, the main goal for the front office should be to keep cornerstone, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, happy moving forward, for surrounding him with personnel he feels comfortable and confident suiting up with will go a long way for both his future as well as the for the franchise.

Perhaps a simple train of thought would be to bring on some players SGA already has a relationship or connection with, and this summer there could be a few players available that are tied to his Kentucky collegiate roots.
