OKC Thunder: 3 options for pick No. 6 after NBA Draft Lottery
OKC Thunder NBA Draft prospect option to select 6th – Scottie Barnes
Another forward to consider is Scottie Barnes. The 6’8″ forward played his college ball at Florida State and is 19 years old.
Like Kuminga there is a high ceiling for Barnes and enough weaknesses in his fundamental skills that need time to develop. He fits the trend of physical, athletic wing defenders who need work on their shot that Presti has loved to draft.
More importantly, with Mark Daigneault pushing the positionless scheme, Barnes fits the mold particularly defensively where he legitimately can guard one through five. Offensively, however, his skill set isn’t as advanced. In his lone season at Florida he averaged 10.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.5 steals through 24 games.
As a high-energy player with defensive acumen, and passing skills he would fit the scheme, and his age fits the timeline.
The question is whether Presti wants to invest in yet another wing that struggles to shoot from the perimeter (27.5 percent) or if he’d rather look at another option who has that skill set.
