OKC Thunder NBA draft profile: Franz Wagner the versatile forward
Pro Comparison:
One of my favorite all-around players growing up was Lamar Odom who Kevin O’Connor lists as a viable comparison to Wagner. If Franz comes remotely close to Odom’s skillset he’ll be an amazing addition to his drafting team.

- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
As TI readers are well aware of Danilo Gallinari became a favorite of the site last season for all the areas of the games he affected. Gallo is another KO’C offering, although I’m not convinced Wagner will ever possess Italian’s range or shooting consistency
Perhaps the more accurate doppelgangers offered for Wagner are Xavier Tillman and Nemanja Bjelica.
OKC Thunder fit:
Wagner is likely to be selected late in the lottery which puts him out of the OKC Thunder selection range. He won’t warrant being the sixth pick and is unlikely to still be on the board by the time Sam Presti makes the 16th pick.
If something shifts in the order theoretically Wagner would be a player who fits into the current roster. Sure, he’ll need to improve his shooting range and consistency, however, he fits the positionless scheme. Wagner’s ability to be plugged into several positions and defend the same would provide an ideal reserve option for Mark Daigneault.
