OKC Thunder NBA draft profile: Corey Kispert, the 3-point assassin
Pro Comparison:
Draft analysts point to Bojan Bogdanovic, Joe Harris, Gary Trent Jr., and Wally Szczerbiak as comparable pros for Kispert.
From the narrator’s perspective, I see shades of former OKC Thunder big man Danilo Gallinari in the Bulldog. He’s four inches shorter but there are many of the same attributes the duo shares. Both are perimeter assassins with versatility offensively and each is slow of foot but brings energy and passion to the hardwood.
OKC Thunder fit:
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
Not much of a question the OKC Thunder could use more scoring in general especially from the perimeter. Kispert unselfish,team-first attitude fits the club identity as well.
His age is a slight deterrent given the Thunder timeline and while he offers attributes the team could use he’d likely be relegated to the reserve unit given the goal of developing Aleksej Pokusevski to slot in at the small forward position.
If this was year three of the rebuild I’d be much more inclined to push for his addition. Regardless, his projected drafting position is between ninth and 14th which lands in the middle of the OKC Thunder’s first and second selections.
That said if something happens in terms of trades to shift OKC’s draft order or Kispert inexplicably falls down the ladder he’d be an excellent addition to bolster the reserve unit offense.
