OKC Thunder NBA draft profile: Ayo Dosunmu – tone setting combo guard
Pro Comparison:
The analysts serve up NBA player comparisons of a jumbo Jrue Holiday, Delon Wright, and Elfrid Payton.
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
Both Wright and Payton are supporting guards who offer more of a well-rounded support game than scorers. The Holiday comparison seems lofty given Dosunmu isn’t a top-level defender which is always something Jrue showcased right from the start of his NBA career.
OKC Thunder fit:
As noted in the opening Ayo is projected to go somewhere between 15th and 34th in the draft order. While that makes him a candidate for the OKC Thunder and some sites pegged him early as a potential pick (either 16th or 18th) for OKC the later mocks shifted that perspective.
He’s a hard worker and might defy the odds, continuing to experience major growth but it’s more likely at his age the shifts will be incremental. Since he does have transferable skills that could help a contending team I think it’s more likely he lands in that type of situation.
