Could Bones Hyland fix OKC Thunder offensive woes?
By Rylan Stiles
Pro Comparison:
While it might not be a flashy comparison, I project Bones Hyland to be Lou Williams with more range. Sure, due to the size and defensive concerns, Hyland probably will not be an NBA starter. His scoring ability will be enough to make him a high-impact bench player. He could have a few sixth man of the year awards in his NBA career.
OKC Thunder fit:
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
The fit with OKC is interesting for Nah’Shon Hyland. With his defensive upside thanks to his wingspan, what alleviates some of the concerns on that end of the floor is how impressive Mark Daigneault has been developing defenders.
Every player to a man on the Thunder roster a year ago took a step forward defensively.
Assuming that trend continues, it allows OKC to feel comfortable taking chances on these players that need to improve defensively.
The Thunder were historically bad a year ago offensively, this is a move that would immediately address that area of concern this season. Depending on what else OKC does in the draft, picking up Bones Hyland would slot him as roughly their third-best offensive weapon already.
