New York Knicks

2021 Free Agents:

  • Reggie Bullock
  • Alec Burks
  • Taj Gibson
  • Jared Harper
  • Nerlens Noel
  • Frank Ntilikina (restricted)
  • Elfrid Payton
  • Theo Pinson
  • Derrick Rose

2021 Draft Picks:

  • Guard, Quentin Grimes (25th)
  • Guard, Rokas Jokubaitis (34th)
  • Guard, Miles McBride (36th)
  • Center, Jericho Sims (58th)

The Knicks returned to the postseason and seemed to have found a new groove under Leon Rose’s leadership. Still, some of their draft choices were confounding given the priority to add offense. While Grimes will fill some of those needs the other three picks don’t meet that need.

Robinson is off the list as the Knicks exercised his option (although he was reportedly included in trade discussions heading into the draft). Even with this move the Knicks still have the most cap space to work with but also have several core contributors on their free-agent list including Rose, Noel, Bullock, and Burks.

The same narrative about making the big free agent swing is on the table. The question is whether Rose will replicate his cautious first offseason approach or go for broke.

Finding a starting point guard who could improve the offensive fortunes of the club will take precedent. No doubt, the Knicks will try to be one of the players in the Lowry sweepstakes, and if unsuccessful focus on the numerous point guards on the free-agent market including Lonzo Ball, Spencer Dinwiddie, Reggie Jackson, and potentially Goran Dragic depending on what happens with the Heat and Raptors.

As for which of the Knicks free agent OKC might want to consider I’ve always been a big Reggie Bullock fan but the wing is 29 which puts him outside the Thunder window. That’s the case for the majority of the list since Rose elected to make a lot of one-year deals with experienced players.

By process of elimination Theo Pinson is the logical free agent to look at — but not seriously enough to make an offer.
