OKC Thunder free agency: Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen (31) defends a shot: David Richard-USA TODAY Sports /

Cleveland Cavaliers

2021 Free Agents:

  • Jarrett Allen (restricted)
  • Matthew Dellavedova
  • Isaiah Hartenstein
  • Jeremiah Martin
  • Brodric Thomas

2021 Draft Picks:

  • Center, Evan Mobley (3rd)

All the buzz in Cleveland was over the Cavaliers getting the highly coveted (and best big man), Evan Mobley in the draft. What got lost in the shuffle on draft night was an under-the-radar trade to bring in veteran point guard Ricky Rubio. Surely, this only compounds their desire to trade Collin Sexton who is covetous of a max deal.  Intentions highlighted the pros and cons of a deal for Sexton but that was under the premise of also swapping picks to get Mobley.

Throughout the draft process, Cleveland consistently stated their optimism of playing Jarrett Allen and Mobley together but I’m not so sure they wouldn’t be open to letting Allen go although it might require a sign and trade option.

Allen would fulfill a need for the Thunder at center and at 22 is perfectly aligned to the timeline. Although Allen isn’t in the floor-spacing big man club he averages close to a double-double (13.2 points, 9.9 rebounds) per game while swatting away 1.4 shots.

At the very least Presti should kick the tires and force the Cavaliers to match their offer.
