No.1 available prospect for OKC Thunder: Jonathan Kuminga

There was an incredible amount of hype surrounding the 18-year-old prospect, who coincidentally is only four days older than Josh Giddey.

Instead of playing college ball, Kuminga decided to play for the NBA G-League “Ignite” team, which helped hone his NBA skills.

Kuminga is a 6-foot-8, 210-pound wing that has a 6-foot-11 wingspan. He can easily interchange between the small forward and power forward positions. He is highly explosive and would have fit nicely alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luguentz Dort.

I prefer this pick over Giddey because Kuminga has the more natural athletic ability, and I would not have to worry about Giddey taking the ball away from SGA (unless that is Presti’s plan).

Kuminga is a rim-runner. He is explosive and competent on the defensive side of the ball. These are all areas that could benefit OKC immediately.

This tweet below highlights all the reasons I wanted Jonathan Kuminga in an OKC Thunder uniform.

He is quick, explosive, and entertaining to watch but most importantly, I do not believe he would impede any of OKC’s young stars. I could even see a scenario where Aleksej Pokusevski and Kuminga share the court during certain matchups. The possibilities are endless. Nonetheless, Thunder fans will be watching Kuminga in Golden State blue & gold for the foreseeable future.
