By Rylan Stiles
Rejoice! Preview content is here! We are nearly a month away from the OKC Thunder returning to action with the NBA season set to open up on October 19th, featuring a full 82 game season running through the middle of April.
The Oklahoma City Thunder get their year started on October 20th in Utah taking on one of the top teams from a year ago. If you stumbled across this article, number one thank you for reading, and number two, you are a diehard NBA fan and/or OKC Thunder fan, trying to find any content to get your hoops to fix.
So let’s all sit back in our comfy chairs and think of a happier time when the NBA season is in full swing, and we have hoops every night. What will be the best day to sit back, clear out your schedule and watch some basketball?
What is the best day of the OKC Thunder, NBA Season
There are two ways to go with this for OKC Thunder fans. The first is finding the best slate of games in a single day that also includes the Bricktown Ballers, the second is finding the best slate of games when the boys in blue have an off day.
Of course, every day the Thunder play is a good one when you get to watch Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dazzle the league with his pace of play, efficiency, and all-around dominance. However, as an NBA fan, maybe you prefer when the team is off so you are not locked into one matchup. So, I will present you with the best day of the year that OKC plays, and also does not play.
I will not try to reinvent the wheel when selecting the best day of NBA basketball without the OKC Thunder in action, it is Christmas Day.
The league knocked this holiday schedule out of the park on their 75th anniversary and it is a good thing they did, with the NFL once again encroaching on what has been an NBA staple. The Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers face off at 3:30 and the Colts play the Cardinals at 7:15 on December 25th.
The NBA counters this with a pair of great matchups the Warriors, who may have Klay Thompson back, take on the Suns at 4, while the typical NBA finals pick, Nets vs Lakers, tips at 7 p.m. At 11 a.m. Trae Young returns to Madison Square Garden, the Boston Celtics travel to the take on the defending champion Bucks, leading into those two marquee matchups, and the night ends with Luka Doncic and the Mavs taking on the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City at 9:30.
All five games feature incredibly fun storylines, and it is rare that the NBA start times lineup for you to be able to sit down and watch five contests in their entirety if they so choose.
For the best day of the season when the OKC Thunder are in action, I am circling a special Friday night in January, the 21st features the Thunder going toe to toe with one of the most fun young squads in the league, the Charlotte Hornets.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander matches up with LaMelo Ball, two of the best young point guards in the league, James Bouknight who looked like a lock to go to the Thunder with the sixth pick will draw the eye of all OKC fans as he faces off with Josh Giddey. That Buzz City roster also features Miles Bridges, Terry Rozier, Gordon Hayward, Thunder legend Kelly Oubre, P.J. Washington, and a couple of pre-draft fan favorites Kai Jones and JT Thor.
The rest of the NBA docket is headlined by the fun high scoring Atlanta Hawks going up against a tough defensive unit in Miami, Memphis takes on the Nuggets in a game that will have huge playoff implications, Cade Cunningham gets tested by the Jazz defense, what will the Clippers even look like as they take on the puzzling 76ers that may or may not have Ben Simmons? The offseason headline stealing Bulls take on the Bucks, Portland goes to Boston, and the Nets and Lakers each play projected bottom feeders in San Antonio and Orlando respectively.
That is certainly a league pass night. Going through each day of the NBA season was tough to come up with just two dates, we are under a month away from the best time of the year! What dates are you circling this season?
