With training set to begin next week, the OKC Thunder are welcoming the players back to the city. Every NBA team can bring 20 players to camp although that number must be trimmed down to 17  by the start of the season. Head Coach Mark Daigneault will determine which 15 players make the varsity roster along with the two 2-way contracted players.

Some of those names are already obvious as Aaron Wiggins and Paul Watson Jr. are the two 2-way contracted players who’ll play for both the varsity team and OKC Blue. An advantage for the Blue this season is they’ll play their home games at the Paycom Center as well.

OKC Thunder arrives at camp with 18 players and the potential to add two more

As of now, there are 18 players we know will start camp on Tuesday. The Thunder could add two more to reach the full training camp complement of 20. The assumption is those two names will be announced on Monday at Media Day if the team decides to bring in two more players.

Many teams bring in those extra players to help for practices and to get a look at potential players who they may add to the G-League team.

Here’s the list of 18 players currently expected to be at the OKC Thunder training camp:

Guards:

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Theo Maledon
Josh Giddey
Tre Mann
Ty Jerome
Charlie Brown Jr
Vit Krejci
Aaron Wiggins-2 way

Wings:

Luguentz  Dort
Aleksej Pokusevski
Kenrich Williams
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl
Paul Watson Jr-2 way

Bigs:

Darius Bazley
Gabriel Deck
Mike Muscala
Derrick Favors
Isaiah Roby

While some players are listed as guards they’ll be slotted in to play the wing or in Pokusevski’s case, he’ll be featured in more of a typical guard role.  Although in truth since Daigneault is aiming to develop a team that plays a positionless scheme. Therefore the typical positions aren’t that important in the grand scheme of things.

Definitive roles are set for the starters, veterans like Favors and Muscala, and the core. For the rest of the squad, they’ll be battles to earn playing time or impress coach Daigneault.
