OKC Thunder Camp notebook day 5, gameday eve
By Rylan Stiles
The OKC Thunder had their first off day on Saturday, giving everyone a much-needed break. Training Camp returned on Sunday Morning, on the eve of the first game day for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2021-22 NBA season.
The NBA preseason kicks off in a matter of minutes as the Nets go to L.A. to take on the Lakers, the Thunder will welcome the Hornets to Oklahoma City tomorrow at seven central with the game streaming on the team’s website and mobile app.
This will mark the first of four preseason tilts for the Thunder as they get set for their regular-season opener, October 20th on the road against the Utah Jazz. Mark Daigneault spoke with those of us in the media after the team’s Sunday practice and we continue our Training Camp notebook series.
OKC Thunder Training Camp notebook day five, happy game day eve!
Mark Daigneault started the day with an injury report for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Derrick Favors, who has been in and out of training camp all week with knee maintenance, took part in the non-contact portion of OKC Thunder practice today.
Vit Krejci was a full participant in practice as he is still recovering from a torn ACL, which took place a year ago, after a day off he was back at seemingly full speed.
A new name was added to the OKC Thunder injury report, veteran forward Kenrich Williams is “dealing with a toe thing” according to the Oklahoma City bench boss. He is a game-time decision for Monday’s preseason opener against the Hornets.
Mark Daigneault mentioned tonight’s practice was intense, he wanted it to still feel like training camp despite a game looming in a matter of hours. A few factors at play are how spaced out the games are in the preseason, and the fact “no one will play crazy minutes” tomorrow according to the head ball coach.
The head man also talked about DJ Wilson, a training camp invite who the team liked during his predraft process. Daigneault reminded us that during that process, Wilson was evaluated as a wing when his real intrigue comes at the center position in the modern NBA.
Theo Maledon called rookie guard Tre Mann really “crafty” mentioning how great of a shooter the 18th overall pick is.
Rest easy tonight knowing that in the morning, it is game day, OKC Thunder fans.
