OKC Thunder: Shifts occur on Intentions week 4 rookie ladder
No. 1 – Evan Mobley – Cleveland Cavaliers
Week four for Evan Mobley was a roller coaster ride of highs and lows. On the positive side, he delivered a stunning week of performances but then suffered an elbow sprain that will remove him from action for a minimum of two weeks and up to a month.
Rookie category rankings:
- Blocks: 1.5 – first
- Double-Doubles: three (first)
- Rebounds: 8.0 – second
- Offensive rebounds: 1.7 – tied second
- Points: 14.6 – second
- Field Goals Made: 5.8 – second
- Field Goal Percent: 49.4% (second among top group)
- Steals: 0.9 – tied sixth
- Assists: 2.5 – seventh
For the purists of the sport who watch multiple teams and games, this is a huge loss as Mobley has been one of the most fascinating and entertaining rookies to watch this season. He’s played well above his age and demonstrated defensive adeptness that had warranted consideration to make an All-Defensive team.
I’m not sure he’ll get those accolades if he has to miss an entire month of games which is highly unfortunate. Heal quickly young man — you’ll be missed.
The Cavaliers defeated the Pistons and Celtics in week four while losing a nailbiter to the Wizards. Mobley got injured in the final game versus the Celts when he and Enes Kanter got entangled under the basket and the injury was one of freakish nature.
In week four he averaged 18 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 2.7 blocks. He also shot 57.1% from the perimeter although on a limited seven cumulative attempts.
Sadly, he won’t be able to retain the top position next week with his injury removing him from contention – let’s hope he recovers and returns in the shorter period of two weeks.
Mobley holds two of rookie statistical categories first place markers and is in the top five of seven in all (five of them are for second place).
Although Barnes had the argument to remain in the top spot, it felt apropos to give it to Mobley especially given his production in week four. Moreover, it’s a nod to the young man as a thank you for his play through the early season
Next week, the ladder will shift once again without Mobley in action.
