No. 4 – Cade Cunningham: Detroit Pistons

It took a week or two for Cade Cunningham to get into a rhythm and catch up with his peers. Week five was his best of the season but like most rookies, he’ll experience fluctuations as he dives deeper into becoming a pro.

Rookie category rankings:

  • Turnovers: 3.5 – first
  • Triple-Doubles – one (first)
  • 3-pointers made: 1.8 -second
  • Assists: 4.8 – second
  • Steals: 1.3 – second
  • Minutes per game: 31.3 – fourth
  • Double-Doubles: two
  • Triple-Doubles: one
  • Rebounds: 6.5 – fourth
  • Field Goals Made: 4.7 – sixth
  • Points: 13.0 – sixth
  • Offensive rebounds: 1.1 -eighth
  • Blocks: 0.5 – tied fourth
  • Field goal percent: 36.0%
  • 3-point field goal percent: 27.4%

In week six Detroit lost all four matches playing the Heat, Bucks, Clippers, and Lakers. Cunningham witnessed a regression from the prior week both in terms of his overall totals and efficiency.

He averaged 10.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1,0 steals, and 4.3 turnovers.  His shooting took a dive with 28.6 percent from the field and 22.2 from the perimeter.

The top draft pick is growing into a leadership role already and he’ll continue to grow and develop. Yet, his placement on the ladder is fourth behind the definitively best trio through the first six weeks of action.
