New NBA roster rules help OKC Thunder wing Aaron Wiggins
By Rylan Stiles
The OKC Thunder have been lucky, unlike seemingly the rest of the NBA, they have not been hit with the dreaded COVID protocols. The Oklahoma City Thunder boosts a team that is fully vaccinated and Mark Daigneault says the organization remains “vigilant” to keep players out of quarantine. However, the virus is unpredictable and the team knows how random it can be, nothing is guaranteed.
As the NBA is on their heels with multiple players checking into the COVID Health and Safety Protocols, games being postponed, and a once-star-studded Christmas Day slate in jeopardy, the league has made a lot of tweaks to their roster rules.
Along with hardship exceptions, ten-day pacts, the association also eliminated the caps on two-way contracts. The league had already adjusted the rules to allow players to play in fifty games when inked to a two-way deal a change from the previous rules which counted practices as days against the pact which forced Lu Dort not to be able to practice with the Oklahoma City Thunder his rookie year until the NBA bubble was formed.
NBA changes two-way rules which helps OKC Thunder, Aaron Wiggins
The NBA is doing away with the cap on players this season, despite Aaron Wiggins and Paul Watson Jr being on two-way contracts and shuffling back-and-forth between the OKC Blue, the team’s G-Leauge affiliate, and the OKC Thunder. Now, it is as though these players are on standard NBA deals, with the only limitations being they would not be able to play in postseason games unless their deal was converted.
Now, Aaron Wiggins, who has already started in three contests and played in 12 tilts while getting heaps of praise from the organization will have unlimited chances to prove himself.
The OKC Thunder, who have a lengthy history of converting two-way deals to NBA spots, will almost certainly do the same with Aaron Wiggins this season.
