OKC Thunder rookie ladder week 5: Magic forward Franz Wagner (22) dunks against the Hawks: Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports /

No. 4 –  Franz Wagner – Orlando Magic

A strong three-game effort for Franz Wagner in week nine. He averaged 17 points, 7.7 rebounds (1.3 offensive boards), four assists, and a steal.

Yet with so many Magic players out either because of the protocols or injury Wagner experienced regression in his typical forte — shooting efficiency.

Rookie category rankings:

  • Field Goals Made: 5.6 – third
  • Steals: 1.1 – third
  • Points: 14.5 – third
  • Minutes per game: 32.2 – fourth
  • Double-Doubles – one (last of the elite five)
  • 3-pointers made: 1.3 – sixth
  • Assists: 2.9 – sixth
  • Rebounds: 4.7 – eighth
  • Offensive rebounds: 1.3 – ninth
  • Blocks: 0.4 – 12th
  • Field Goal Percent: 44.5%
  • 3-point percentage: 36.2% (first of elite five)

Wagner regressed to 0.0 percent from the perimeter missing all eight of his attempts and shot 39.2 percent from the field (which for him was a big dip).

Undeterred he improved from his typical averages in assists, rebounding, free throw attempts and collected his first double-double of the season versus the severely undermanned Nets.

His best scoring effort in week nine occurred against the Heat (27 points)  and while he collected a double-double versus the Nets he shot 4 of 14 from the field for 14 points but added a season-best 11 rebounds plus six assists. It was also the first win for the Magic in seven games (second in 16 matches.
