Report: OKC Thunder sign Zavier Simpson to ten day deal
By Rylan Stiles
The OKC Thunder are in the midst of their first COVID-19 outbreak as the NBA battles the virus going around League locker rooms, it is the Oklahoma City Thunder’s turn to ink hardship deals and navigate through missing players as they enter the Health and Safety Protocols.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are without Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Aleksej Pokusevski, Darius Bazley, and Tre Mann out due to health and safety protocols. Vit Krejci is sidelined with a right ankle sprain he suffered in the Championship game of the NBA G-Leauge Showcase cup in Vegas last week. Aaron Wiggins briefly went into NBA Health and Safety Protocols before being listed as available an hour later.
OKC Thunder reportedly make one of three replacement player signings
The OKC Thunder will need to sign three players to ten-day deals according to NBA rules that are seemingly changing by the minute. There are a ton of different ways to go with this, such as calling up players from the OKC Blue, seeking outside G-Leaguers, or former NBAers as well.
According to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype, the Oklahoma City Thunder will sign Zavier Simpson to a ten-day hardship deal. It is important to note this report came out on Monday, and no one should expect an official announcement from the OKC Thunder organization until Tuesday Morning to maximize the ten days with the team.
The Oklahoma City Thunder will need all the depth they can get as they enter one of their hardest weeks of the year playing games Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday against the Kings, Suns, Knicks, and Mavericks respectively. The OKC Thunder sit 12-20, turning in a 6-4 record in their last ten following a big win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday.
Zavier Simpson in 12 games this season averages seven points per contest while shooting 40-percent from the floor, and 33-percent from downtown. Coupling that with his three rebounds four assists, and one steal per game it is easy to see why Sam Presti and Mark Daigneault want to explore what Simpson can do at the varsity level.
The OKC Thunder organization believes in Simpson, selecting him seventh overall in the NBA G-Leauge draft last season as the Michigan product posted ten points, four rebounds, six assists, and a steal per game in the NBA G-League bubble a year ago.
