The OKC Thunder are in the midst of a COVID-19 outbreak that gets worse by the minute. Now down six players to health and safety protocols, and their head coach Mark Daigneault, the Oklahoma City Thunder have inked three hardship 10-day contracts to add depth to their roster ahead of a busy week. As of now, the Thunder have 13 players on their active roster, forced to play four games this week including a back-to-back Tuesday/Wednesday, a New Year’s Eve clash with the Knicks, and Sunday against the Mavericks.

The OKC Thunder have simply dipped into their NBA G-League Affiliate roster as the OKC Blue are off to a hot start this season. The Blue went to the NBA G-League Showcase cup championship game in Vegas this season before the G-League season was put on pause. The Blue, coached by Grant Gibbs, run the same actions, use the same verbiage, and have routine check-ins with the main squad so it should make the transition easier for these exhibition ten deals to merge into the Oklahoma City Thunder roster.

OKC Thunder signs Sarr, Hopson, and Edwards to ten-day deals

The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed Olivier Sarr, Scotty Hopson, and Rob Edwards to ten-day deals to give the varsity squad more depth.

For Sarr and Edwards, when they check into an NBA game on these day ten-day deals, it will represent the first NBA action of their careers. For Hopson, he has not played in the NBA since 2017-18, when he played one game for the Dallas Mavericks. The Tennesse product has played three games total in his NBA career.

Olivier Sarr is a 22-year-old big man who went to the Univerisity of Kentucky and battled it out with Tre Mann of the Florida Gators. Sarr, with Favors and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl entering health and safety protocols, represents one of the only big men on the OKC Thunder roster. Standing 7-feet tall, Sarr offers a different look than what Oklahoma City has flashed this season.

Rob Edwards is a fan favorite, a sharpshooter for the OKC Blue. Last season, Edwards shot the three-ball at a 40-percent clip in the NBA G-League bubble, that number dipped to 34-percent so far this season in just as many games and attempts per game. Edwards went to Arizona State where he shared a backcourt with Lu Dort in college.

Scotty Hopson is a 32-year-old wing who was lighting up the college basketball ranks at the University of Tennessee when I was in Elementary school (seriously if you did not watch the Vols at that time, go to Youtube and look up highlights, it was spectacular) represents a veteran presence that can bridge the gap from G-Leauge to the NBA.
