By Rylan Stiles
The OKC Thunder head back on the road to take on the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, as the Thunder seak their first win since we all flipped our calendars to 2022. The Oklahoma City Thunder are tied in the win column with the Houston Rockets for the worst record in the Western Conference, after the Rockets’ surprising upset of the Utah Jazz tonight.
The Oklahoma City Thunder came out flat tonight against the San Antonio Spurs, which is abnormal for them. The Thunder have the youngest roster in the Association, and it typically shows with their infectious energy night in and night out. However, in an embarrassingly empty AT&T Center, it was hard for the youngsters to get juiced for this game, it appeared. Though, it had no impact on the hometown Spurs who raced out to a huge lead and eventually won 119-96.

Aaron Wiggins was one of the only OKC Thunder players to perform tonight, keeping the game closer than it should’ve been in the first frame. Wiggins scored 19-points, eight rebounds, a steal, a block, all on effective shooting from the floor going for 72-percent from the floor, 1-for-4 from three, and 2-for-3 at the free-throw line. Wiggins, who will eventually have his Two-way deal transferred to a Standard NBA contract after the trade deadline funny business ends, was great as he was inserted back to the starting lineup tonight. Mark Daigneault played the Maryland rookie 34-minutes tonight.
Mamadi Diakite, Mike Muscala, Ty Jerome, and Tre Mann were the only players to accompany Wiggins in having a solid Wednesday night performance. Diakite, who is currently on a ten-day contract, played 18-minutes scoring eight points, three rebounds, on two missed shots.
Ty Jerome chipped in ten points on 40-percent shooting, Tre Mann earned seven points and two rebounds, and Mike Muscala who could only play in small spurts due to an injured ankle scored six points and a rebound.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Lu Dort, Josh Gidddey, and Darius Bazley were all ineffective in this game, which is not a receipt for success for Mark Daigneault’s squad.
The Oklahoma City Thunder, who have spent this entire season in the top half of the league defensively, allowed the Spurs to score 118-points, six players to reach double-figures, and Dejounte Murray to log a triple-double.
The OKC Thunder will return to the hardwood Friday for the first game of a back-to-back set, Friday in Charlotte to take on LaMelo Ball‘s Hornets, and Saturday in Cleveland to face off with the Cavs for the second time this week.
