The Oklahoma City Thunder are in the midst of their rebuild and are just one draft process into the team’s play to retool a championship-caliber roster. This is a franchise that once drafted three straight MVPs to spark a decade of contention in Bricktown. Sam Presti had to nail the first pick in this process, and after some bad lottery luck sees their pick tumble to six, it certainly looks like Oklahoma City has hit a home run on this selection with Josh Giddey.

With the sixth overall pick, the Oklahoma City Thunder grabbed NBL standout Josh Giddey, who has maintained since day one Oklahoma City was where he wanted to be. A selection that was met with some pushback at the time, even viewed by some as a reach, has been one of the greater value picks from the historic 2021 NBA Draft.

The Oklahoma City Thunder see Josh Giddey collect yet another Rookie of the Month award in the Western Conference, breaking another Thunder record

Josh Giddey has dazzled the Paycom Center since the preseason where he earned a starting spot and never looked back. Mark Daigneault has instilled supreme trust in this 19-year-old who has been great this record-breaking season.

Already the owner of the first two Western Conference Rookie of the Month Awards, Giddey continues to sweep the category adding January’s award to his trophy case. On top of that, The rookie has set a new watermark for double-doubles in a rookie season already tallying 11, passing Russell Westbrook‘s 10 total double-doubles during his rookie campaign.

Giddey also passed fellow NBL standout LaMelo Ball for the youngest player in NBA history to log a triple-double. All while having a quirky no points double-double as a guard. What can’t Josh Giddey do?

There is a legit chance that Josh Giddey can go wire-to-wire claiming every Western Conference Rookie of the Month award this season, and yet still not take home the NBA Rookie of the Year. That is how loaded of a draft class this is. Giddey becomes the lone Thunder rookie to capture three Rookie of the Month honors. Note: Kevin Durant pulled off three wins in Seattle.
