The Oklahoma City Thunder continues to reap the rewards, and awards, of their fantastic 2021 NBA Draft Class. Josh Giddey, who was a surprising sixth overall pick in the NBA Draft, collected yet another Western Conference Rookie of the Month Awards. Giddey has won every Month of the Western Conference Rookie of the Month award including the February award. A loaded month for the former-NBL superstar and 19 year old.
Josh Giddey participated in the NBA All-Star weekend rising stars and skills competition, rubbing elbows with the greats in Cleveland for the 75th anniversary of the NBA. In the month, Josh Giddey continued to rack up triple-doubles going for three straight triple-doubles to close out the pre-All Star weekend stretch, collecting four total so far this season. In ten games, Giddey averages 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists per game on 33 minutes of action per tilt. Shooting 46-percent from the floor, and 27-percent from deep, Giddey was simply jaw-dropping in the month.
Josh Giddey wins the February Western Conference Rookie of the Month award, continues to sweep the award, a streak that might end in March
The Oklahoma City Thunder are incredibly pleased with the first 54 games of Josh Giddey’s career averaging 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists, on 41-percent shooting per tilt. Giddey has started every game he has participated in though he has been held out since February 25th with a hip soreness injury that will keep him sidelined for at least “a couple of weeks” as of March 5th according to OKC Thunder bench boss Mark Daigneault.
With that timeline, it would be surprising to see Josh Giddey continue his streak and go wire-to-wire winning Western Conference Rookie of the Month awards for March. Though, OKC has another promising young rookie that might make a run for it in Tre Mann. The 18th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft was a nominee for this month’s award, seeing his teammate take it home again.
