The Oklahoma City Thunder are preparing for the 2022-23 NBA season, with media day and training camp set for the final week in September, and with a new season comes a new video game in the NBA 2k series. The 2k23 edition of NBA 2k dropped this weekend, and while you get set for grinding hours of your life away on badges against the computer on pro, you could also take a break and play with this Thunder squad.

The NBA 2k ratings for the OKC Thunder set them in tier 3 in Online Play Now, the worst tier in the game, setting the team as an 86 overall. That mark is higher than the Magic, Spurs, Jazz, Wizards, Hornets, Pistons, Rockets, and Pacers while being tied with the Knicks for the best mark in the grouping. According to the video game raters, the Thunder are the 8th worst team in the league.

If you are unaware, the NBA 2k team has rating adjusters to watch the games and give players attribute ratings in every category such as playmaking, shooting, finishing, and so on. These ratings technically go from 0-99, however, the lowest rated players are a 66 in Dallas Mavericks two-way forward Tyler Dorsey and Spur forward Dominick Barlow

The Oklahoma City Thunder are led, even virtually, by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who comes in as an 87 overall with an A+ finishing rating. Avid 2k player Josh Giddey made a huge leap to an 82 overall, which he was pleased with leading up to launch week. Lu Dort, who got paid this offseason, still can not crack the 80s tier, stuck at a 77.

The OKC Thunder earned some lottery luck this offseason to leap up to the 2nd overall pick and grab future franchise cornerstone, Chet Holmgren. However, that luck quickly turned as Holmgren will be out for the entire 2022-23 season after suffering a foot injury. NBA 2k rates Holmgren a 77 overall, the third highest rated rookie behind Paolo Banchero and Jabari Smith Jr.

While that may seem low, and it is, 2k typically does this to promote the rookies with roster updates throughout the season. However, Holmgren will not be able to enjoy that increase as he is sidelined for the year.

Darius Bazley, who also plays a lot of NBA 2k, comes in as a 76 overall, followed by Mike Muscala (76), Kenrich Williams (75), Derrick Favors (75), Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (73), Aaron Wiggins (73), Ty Jerome (72), Theo Maledon (72), Ousmane Dieng (72), Jalen Williams (72), Lindy Waters III (71), Jaylin Williams (70), Vit Krejci (70), and Eugene Omoruyi (68).

While Lottery picks Jalen Williams and Ousmane Dieng seem underrated at 72, it will not take long for NBA 2K to upgrade their overalls once the season starts.

What do you think of the 2k ratings for the 2022-23 Oklahoma City Thunder? Did the game get it right tabbing OKC as better than eight other teams?
