The Oklahoma City Thunder are days away from starting their season, it will tip-off on Wednesday in Minnesota against the new-look Timberwolves that seem poised for a fun regular season. Even after a fantastic preseason slate that featured a lot of promising young players overperforming expectations and a shiny 5-1 record, all the attention is still on the loaded 2023 NBA Draft.

The NBA G-League Ignite put on a fantastic event last week with the top two prospects in the upcoming draft, Victor Wembanyama, and Scoot Henderson, facing off with one another. Both players showed close to 300 NBA scouts and executives in attendance just how incredible they are. The games left NBA fans salivating over the potential of adding these franchise-changing players to their squad.

With the news of Chet Holmgren being out for the year, plus most expecting OKC to win around 24 wins this season, you can not blame Thunder fans for being enamored with Wembanyama.

Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Ousmane Dieng talks about his relationship with Victor Wembanyama  at OKC Thunder media day

The Oklahoma City Thunder traded a trio of future first-round picks to the New York Knicks to move up to the 11th slot in the 2022 NBA Draft. Much to the surprise of the NBA world, Sam Presti retained the 12th selection in which they got the Santa Clara guard Jalen Williams. All this after selecting star big man Chet Holmgren with the 2nd overall pick. At 11, the Thunder grabbed Ousmane Dieng who at the time looked like a project-high upside swing.

Ousmane Dieng has since impressed in the preseason with his defensive ability and offensive comfortability.

Way back at Media Day, Dieng was asked about Victor Wembanyama as both are talented NBA prospects from France. Ousmane Dieng said he is “good friends” with Wembanyama.

Former Thunder guard Theo Maledon, who the team used a second-round pick on in 2020 before trading him to the Houston Rockets during training camp this year, said of Victor Wembanyama  “I believe in him for sure…he is really hungry.”

Maledon, who has since been waived from Houston and inked a deal with the Hornets, could not stop himself from smiling when talking about Wembanyama.
