The Oklahoma City Thunder will start their season on Wednesday when they travel up to Minnesota to take on the new-look Minnesota Timberwolves that look primed for a big leap up the standings this season. The OKC Thunder will play the Timberwolves twice in their first three games this season, and today the team announced their 17-man roster to start the season.

After an offseason of roster shuffling, it all came out to this 17-man version of the 2022-23 Oklahoma City Thunder. This is just a starting point, between injuries, signings, and trades that happen throughout the regular season, but here is the starting foundation of the 2022-23 season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder announce their 2022-23 roster ahead of the regular season opener on Wednesday, with plenty of new faces and young talent

What a summer it has been, huh? The Oklahoma City Thunder roster feels different and the same all at the same time. Maybe that doesn’t make sense, maybe I have downed too much coffee combined with all-nighters getting ready for the season, but I am pumped for this season to be here.

The Oklahoma City Thunder started this offseason by drafting four players, including three (3) lottery picks. Sam Presti selected Chet Holmgren, who was arguably the best player in the class before the draft, and nabbed Ousmane Dieng and Jalen Williams with the 11th and 12th picks respectively…oh yeah, if you have not followed along, Presti who many said would never let go of picks traded three (3) first-round picks for Ousmane Dieng. Plus, adding Jaylin Williams, yes, a second player by the same name, and third Williams, with the 34th overall pick.

The Thunder then inked Lu Dort to a five-year extension, locked Kenrich Williams up long-term, and re-signed Mike Muscala for another season as soon as free agency opened way back in July.

Then, the bad news hit. Chet Holmgren suffered a season-ending injury during an August Pro-am event in Seattle sharing the floor with many other NBA stars. Holmgren has a right foot injury and will be shelved for the entire 2022-23 season, but unlike in other sports, he still counts against the 17-man roster count.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain that has held him out of training camp and the preseason, but the fifth-year guard is ready for action as the OKC Thunder tip off their season on Wednesday.

Then, this weekend before setting the roster the OKC Thunder made one more shuffle inking Isaiah Joe to a multi-year contract after the 76ers moved on from the 2020 second-round pick and High school teammate of Jaylin Williams.

Here is the full Oklahoma City Thunder roster:

  • Guards: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey, Tre Mann, Lu Dort, Isaiah Joe (5)
  • Forwards: Ousmane Dieng, Jalen Williams, Darius Bazley, Aleksej Pokusevski, Aaron Wiggins, Kenrich Williams (6)
  • Bigs: Chet Holmgren, Mike Muscala, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Jaylin Williams (4)
  • Two-way contracts: Eugene Omoruyi (Forward), Lindy Waters III (Guard) (2)

That brings the final roster cuts to Trey Burke, Marquese Chriss, and David Nwaba. How excited are you for this Oklahoma City Thunder roster?

Next. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will play in the season opener on Wednesday, Mark Daigneault says he is "on track". dark
