Welcome back after a day free zone of NBA games as the league kicks back into action and the OKC Thunder plays host to the Milwaukee Bucks.

It’s sort of a situation where the Thunder lost the straw draw as this is the first match the Bucks are playing immediately after suffering their first loss of the season.

The Hawks were the team who upset the tea cart and used the old adage of be careful what you wish for as the Bucks seemingly relaxed with Trae Young out resting his sore shins.

So now, the Thunder has to face the Bucks just days after they lost 94-114 to them in Milwaukee even with Giannis Antetokounmpo taking the night off.

A few changes since that meeting that we’ll get you up to speed on.

OKC Thunder vs Bucks Odds, Spread, Over/Under

A bit of a surprise from the oddsmakers in terms of how low the spread is. Of course, the Bucks are the favorite but the -6.5 spread is reflective of the fact Jrue Holiday is doubtful as he nurses a sore ankle.

And you’d be surprised how one word can impact the spread — that word? – – “PROBABLE”.

This is in reference to whether Antetounmpo will participate.

He’s expected to suit up but it’s no secret he’s been nursing a sore knee. If the Bucks had a fully healthy complement of their roster available he’d likely give that knee a rest but with Holiday’s presence unlikely and Khris Middleton already out TI’s best guess is he plays.

The over/under is 219 again, likely influenced by the participants as well as the score from last week when the Bucks won 108-94 for a total of 202.

As for the money line, the current markers are plus +225 for the OKC Thunder and minus -275 for the Bucks.

Some other betting notables:

  • Thunder is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.
  • Bucks are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight-up loss of more than 10 points.
  • Under is 4-0 in the Thunder’s last 4 games following a straight-up loss.
  • Bucks are 6-15 ATS in the last 21 meetings in Oklahoma City.
  • Thunder are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games at home.
  • Bucks are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games.
  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of Oklahoma City’s last 6 game
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Milwaukee’s last 5 games.s.

Thunder Starting Lineup:

In the Monday game against the Detroit Pistons, head coach Mark Daigneault tweaked the starting rotation yet again reinserting rookie Jalen Williams (as we predicted).

Against the Bucks this past Saturday, coach inserted Mike Muscala which he might do again to help combat the size of Brook Lopez.

Thunder Injury Report

Aleksej Pokusevski missed the last game continuing to deal with his shoulder. There isn’t much to glean from the current report that lists him as questionable for tonight.

Chet Holmgren (Lisfranc fracture) is out for the season, rehabbing the injury to his right foot.

As noted above, Jrue Holiday was upgraded to doubtful with his ankle while Antetokounmpo was listed as probable.

In addition, AJ Green (nose), Pat Connaughton (calf), and Khris Middleton (wrist) are out with presumed returns sometime this month but nothing definite yet.

Joe Ingles’ who suffered the torn ACL is aiming for an early New Year return date.

OKC Thunder vs. Bucks Stats Comparison and Prediction

Not much new to touch on in this segment compared to our preview from this past Saturday. The most notable factor would be if Holiday is out it’ll open up the court for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

That’s significant given the defensive wing held SGA under his season averages.

To wit: SGA is averaging 30.8 points, 5.8 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 2.1 steals, and 1.4 blocks per contest.

Against the Bucks on Saturday (with Holiday his key defender), he was held below those averages in all the key categories: 18 points, one rebound, three assists, 1 steal, and one block. Moreover, he took his fewest field goal attempts of this season (16) and shot with his second-lowest efficiency (7 of 16 for 43.8%) of the campaign.

Certainly, Antetokounmpo could be shifted onto Gilgeous-Alexander, but its likely coach Mike Budenholzer would task his charges into more of a defend-by-committee situation for Shai.

Another chalkboard item will be crashing the glass. The Bucks outrebounded OKC 55-38, doubling them up on the offensive boards 18 to 9.

So about that short straw…
