OKC Thunder vs. Pelicans key matchup and prediction

This is the first of four scheduled meetings between the clubs this season with the Thunder playing host on December 23rd and February 13th while the last game of the regular season series will take place back in New Orleans on  March 11th

While both clubs have young superstars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Zion Williamson the Pelicans are ahead of the Thunder in their rebuild.

New Orleans is invested in securing a playoff berth with a deep roster comprised of a great mix of young rising stars and young veterans.

With 19 games in the books, the Pelicans have demonstrated solid two-way play. Looking at the other young rising teams like the Kings and Pacers for example the one thing holding them back from being stronger contenders is they excel on only one side of the court.

New Orleans has the fourth-best point production with 117.3 per game while ranking fifth both in field goal (48.6 percent) and perimeter percentage (38.2 percent).

On defense, New Orleans ranks 12th for opponent scoring allowing 117.3 points, and limits opponents to 46.9 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from deep ranking 18th and fifth respectively.

At full strength, this would be a much easier decision, but the possibility that Ingram will be out along with McCollum who is still in quarantine offers a better opportunity for the Thunder to steal the game.

The loss to the Rockets was the second-worst margin of defeat this season (Bucks) so it’s likely the Thunder will be seeking to avenge that performance. The missing players on the Pelicans help but the discipline and depth of the Pelicans will be hard to overcome.

What channel is the Thunder-Pelicans game on?

Per usual the game will be broadcast on Bally Sports Oklahoma or NBA League Pass. Tip-Off is set for 8:00 p.m. EST (7:00 CT) from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans,  Louisiana
