The OKC Thunder ride their three-game win streak into Memphis hoping to extend the winning. This match serves up two of the best young talents in the NBA as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will face box office star, Ja Morant.
On a night where Luka Doncic tied SGA for 30-point scoring efforts this season, the OKC Thunder cornerstone quickly moved back in front with yet another impressive night.
Although the inevitable may still be coming (tanking for Wembanyama) this squad sure is fun to watch and the wins somehow feel even more thrilling than when OKC was a perennial contender.
Unlike prior seasons, trailing by double-digits never means the game is over. Rather, it almost seems to inspire the Thunder to try harder.
They’ll face a tough challenger in the Grizzlies and while it’s good news we likely get to see Mr. Box Office (Morant) it also presents a tough challenge.

Injury Report
Kenrich Williams remains out dealing with the sore knee and Chet Holmgren remains on the bench cheering his teammates on as he rehabs the foot injury that has forced him to red shirt this season.
For the Grizzlies Ziaire Williams is questionable with a sore knee while Jake LaRavia is doubtful nursing a sore foot. Desmond Bane (toe), and Danny Green (knee) are out indefinitely.
OKC Thunder vs. Grizzlies key matchup and prediction
This is the second of four meetings between these clubs this season. Memphis won the initial match 121-110. OKC has yet to play host which they will on December 17th and April 9th.
Miami got the benefit of playing the Grizzlies without Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. in the lineup but failed to take advantage. They aren’t listed on the official NBA injury report so presumably they’ll be back tonight.
I never wish for injuries and to be honest I’m glad both are expected back. First, because it’s great to watch teams at full capacity and second it’s a litmus test for the OKC Thunder which is important as they continue to grow and build.
As for the raw data the OKC Thunder average more points (117) and rank higher (6th) than the Grizzlies (114.8/rank 10th).
Efficiency isn’t where OKC excel though as they rank 20th in both field goal percentage (46.4%) and perimeter percentage (33.9%). Memphis isn’t much better ranking 21st (46%) from the field and a stronger 12th rank from deep (36.1%).
On defense OKC allows 117.7 points and opponents shoot 46.7% from the field and 35.6% from the perimeter which ranks 29th, 14th and 17th.
The Grizzlies allow 112.8 points (14th) with opponents shooting 46.1% and 36.2% from deep ranking ninth and 20th. Notably, their defense is improving since the return of Jaren Jackson Jr.
Although I’ve enjoyed the recent success and Shai’s incredible run they draw the Grizzlies while they also are playing really well. While I’d lean to Memphis winning I like the OKC to keep the score closer than the six point spread. Also, betting Shai to score 30+ in a prop bet is paying more often than not.
