Game Tonight: OKC Thunder vs Mavericks Odds, Injury Report, Prediction, for Dec. 12th
The final stop on the mini road trip finds the OKC Thunder in Dallas to play the Mavericks. Both teams are on a current two-game losing streak and coincidentally are 7-8 in their last 15 games.
The Mavericks who had climbed up the ladder and seemed poised to make a run for the top rung have plummeted to 10th and are clinging to a .500 record (13-13).
While the OKC Thunder have arguably overachieved they can afford to lose games as the team focuses on reformulating and perhaps one (maybe two) more years of intense developing (read: tanking).
In contrast, the Mavericks who reached the Western Conference Finals last season were hopeful they would get even further this campaign and ideally be a legitimate title contender. But it’s become clear while Luka Doncic is the basketball equivalent of a fast-rising comet ascending to ultra-superstardom the roster placed around him could use an injection of talent.
In a similar fashion, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is carving out his own status with a breakthrough star-making season. Ironically the two players with the most 30-point performances this season are Luka and SGA.
As the stars prepare to battle let’s dive into the pertinent specifics of the game.

Injury Report
Kenrich Williams continues to be sidelined with a sore knee not making the trip with the team to Dallas. Chet Holmgren (foot) is out for the season.
In addition, Ousmane Dieng and Lindy Waters III are on assignment with the OKC Blue in the G League.
Luka Doncic missed the game in Chicago with a quadricep strain but is listed as probable for Monday. Josh Green (elbow sprain) and Maxi Kleber (right foot soreness) were also out in Chicago. Green is out again, but Kleber is questionable.
Also out are Tyler Dorsey and McKinley Wright IV who are on assignment with the G-League.
OKC Thunder vs. Mavericks key matchup and prediction
This is the second meeting between the squads who’ll play three times in total. The initial meeting on October 29th required overtime with the Thunder proving victorious in the 117-111 outcome. OKC will host the final contest early in the New Year (January 8th).
As noted above the teams have been on a similar path of late each losing their last two matches. In their last game, OKC fell to the Cavs in a spirited 101-110 decision while Dallas played without Doncic and got annihilated 115-144 by the Bulls.
For the majority of the season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was leading the league in 30-point scoring nights but recently he was passed by none other than Luka Doncic.
SGA has 17 while Luka has 18 (both in 24 appearances.
They each registered one of those 30-point nights when they last met with Gilgeous-Alexander scoring 38 (plus nine assists and six rebounds) while Doncic put up 31 points as part of his triple-double effort (plus16 rebounds, and 10 assists).
On the season SGA is averaging 31.1 points, 6.0 assists, 4.7 rebounds,1.7 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. In comparison, Doncic is averaging 32.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 8.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.
The two players shoot almost identically from the field with SGA clicking at 50 percent while Luka shoots 0.1 percent better (50.1%). But Shai is much better from the charity stripe 92.6% versus 71.1% and again almost identical in terms of attempts with Luka getting 10.4 versus Shai’s 10.0 attempts.
In terms of key points for the match, the OKC Thunder are a much better rebounding team and in their initial meeting, they dominated the paint outscoring the Mavs 70 to 54 with SGA getting a ton of those points.
Assuming Doncic plays the Mavericks should collect the win but I’d take the 8.5 points for the Thunder to keep it closer than that margin.
AND… I like SGA to score 30 or more as a prop bet. He’s only missed reaching that scoring margin in consecutive games ONCE (these last two) so the odds are in his favor to break that threshold again.
