The Oklahoma City Thunder are in the midst of a fun season as they swept the Portland Trail Blazers in their two-game baseball series in the Paycom Center on Monday and Wednesday despite Damian Lillard making history as the Portland Trail Blazer’s all-time leading scorer.
Damian Lillard has already climbed up that latter in his ten-year NBA career, spanning 731 games and racking up 18,064 points and counting for the Blazers. Throughout that time though, he has heard a lot of outside noise.
Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander gets advice from NBA star and legend Damian Lillard on the outside noise
Damian Lillard is a six-time all-star, as many times All-NBA, a Rookie of the Year, and a member of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team on successful Portland teams that have already compiled 61 playoff games throughout his career.
Despite the success, every NBA offseason NBA fans, media members, and personnel alike have pushed for Damian Lillard to embrace the new trend of player movement and player empowerment and demand out of Portland to join up with other NBA legends and form a super team with an easy path to an NBA Championship.
So far, Damian Lillard has stayed strong, has made his entire brand about loyalty, and has even seen some backlash for out much he does not “Run from the grind.”
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finds himself in a similar spot with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Despite only being in the midst of his fourth season so far in Oklahoma City with already a playoff series under his belt in Bricktown, the calls have been loud to “free Shai” from this “tanking” organization.
Of course, that is devoid of facts as the Thunder have never finished below the fourth-worst record in the NBA in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s time with Oklahoma City.
Now, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is playing at an MVP level, has OKC just a couple of games out of the NBA Play-in tournament, and is earning a lot of shine from the National Media.
Damian Lillard cautioned the rising star saying “He is in a situation where he is playing free…He’s got a group of guys that understand he is the leader, he is the guy…His career is in a great position…I’d say the grass is not always greener on the other side.”
So while the Toronto Raptors fanbase will all beg for their hometown kid to return home, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander might just be content with his current situation in Bricktown, as, at each turn, he gives great quotes to make you believe he wants to be in Oklahoma City.
