Shai Gilgeous-Alexander earns another POTW Nomination

The Oklahoma City Thunder wrap up their Christmas Holiday with a 14-19 record, as many teams around this time of year begin to evaluate where they sit in the NBA landscape the Thunder are two games out of an NBA Play-In tournament spot with an easy schedule remaining, and a superstar in the making in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

However, given how jumbled the standings are, the Thunder are also two games back of the fifth-worst record in the NBA and have a 39.9 percent chance at a top-four pick in the loaded 2023 NBA Draft.

Still, the story of this season no matter how it ends record-wise is the rise of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander into the national spotlight and taking yet another leap in every category.

The Oklahoma City Thunder see star point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander nominated for the Western Conference Player of the Week award which Luka Doncic took home

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.6 points, four rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block per game while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 35 percent from the three-point line on three attempts per game.

The OKC Thunder max contract point guard was already tabbed as a Player of the Week for the Western Conference this season, after a 3-0 week that saw him average 31.7 points, eight assists, and five rebounds on the week.

This week, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was nominated for the award, before Luka Doncic was given the honor. SGA had another fantastic week.

In the three games Shai Gilgeous-Alexander played this past week, he went 2-1, hitting a game-winner against Portland in a 35-point effort, and posting a career-high 44 points in an overtime loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

That all averages out to 35 points, five rebounds, and five assists per game while almost swiping two steals (1.7) and a block per game. To get to those 35 points, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander hit 50 percent of his triples and 48 percent of his shots from the floor.

Luka Doncic went 3-1, averaging 31.5 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds per game including a massive Christmas Day win over LeBron James and the L.A. Lakers.

While he did not win, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was nominated for the first Western Conference Player of the Month award earlier this month and is in line to get at least a nomination for December as well next week.

In the Eastern Conference, Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam took home the honor as he averaged 38.7 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists with a 2-1 record for the Raptors.
