The OKC Thunder will wrap up the week playing host to the Dallas Mavericks. It’s been a wildly up-and-down week reflecting on how a young team navigates growth and development.

Embarrassing the Celtics by dropping 150 points on them might be the highlight of the year, especially considering the fact Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wasn’t even playing.

But to follow up that match with a loss in Orlando to a shorthanded lottery team reminds that there is work still to be completed.

As the OKC Thunder take aim at the future one team they’ll need to beat in the coming years is the Dallas Mavericks or perhaps more accurately, the player they’ll need to be prepared to beat is superstar Luka Doncic.

This match sets up a great opportunity to gauge how the Thunder aligns with the Mavs and serves up an incredible star menu of Luka versus Shai!

With that let’s dive into the odds, injuries, and game details.

OKC Thunder vs Mavericks Odds, Spread, Over/Under

If you do a double-take when you see the odds it’s not a mistake that the OKC Thunder are favored by a 3.5 point spread. Although it’s not confirmed the uncertainty of whether Luka Doncic will play is the key reason why.

The over/under is set at 227.5 points and the moneyline places the Thunder at minus -160 and the Mavericks at a plus +150.

Injury Report

From the most recent official NBA injury report  update:

Jaylin Williams is the one addition to the injured list as he nurses an ankle sprain.

Aleksej Pokusevsk (left tibial plateau – non-displaced fracture), Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (ankle), and Ousmane Dieng (fractured wrist) are all out.

Chet Holmgren (foot – Lisfranc fracture) is shut down for the season.

As for the Mavericks, they haven’t submitted a report yet but there is uncertainty about Luka Doncic playing because of a sore left ankle.

Players out for sure are Dorian Finney-Smith (right adductor strain), Josh Green (right elbow sprain), and Maxi Kleber (right hamstring tear).

OKC Thunder vs. Mavericks  prediction

As soon as I saw the spread I figured Luka Doncic wasn’t playing or was uncertain. That’s how much of an influence he has on whether the Mavs win or lose.

While others are out the fact Dallas will automatically become the underdog without him speaks to the lack of depth on the Mavericks.

Doncic is averaging 34.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 8.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. Doncic is shooting 49.9 percent from the field on 22.8 attempts, 35.5 percent from the perimeter on 8.1 attempts, and 74.2 percent from the stripe on 11.3 attempts.

Statistically, the Mavericks score 112.5 points per game ranking 20th overall. Efficiency-wise, they shoot 47.0 percent from the field and  35.8 percent.from the perimeter ranking 23rd and 13th respectively.

On defense, the Mavs rank fifth for opponent scoring allowing 110.8 points per game with foes shooting 48.0 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from the perimeter ranking 23rd and 10th respectively.

While the hope is we get to witness OKC Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander facing the leading MVP candidate it may not be in the cards.

To that end, it’s a tough game to call without confirmation of whether Luka will play. I’d take the points and keep an eye on the injury report then make a decision once there is confirmation one way or another. If Doncic plays take the points and Mavs, without him take the Thunder against the spread.
