The Oklahoma City Thunder are poised to play on National Television for the second time this season after their game against the Los Angeles Lakers was flexed to the TNT Tuesday game of the week time slot as Lakers star, and NBA icon, LeBron James continues to chase history and likely set to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer against the OKC Thunder next week.

LeBron James is on the precipice of becoming the all-time leading scorer in the National Basketball Association, chasing down Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing record of 38,387 points which has not been topped in nearly forty years.

The Oklahoma City Thunder might again be part of a historic NBA moment as LeBron James is nearing the NBA’s scoring record, prompting the league to flex another OKC Thunder game to National Television.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have been one of the biggest surprises of the NBA season so far. They sit within two games of the postseason despite many thinking they would be paving the way toward the bottom of the standings and cashing in on the most lottery balls in the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes.

The OKC Thunder not only saw Shai Gilgeous-Alexander get tabbed as a first-time all-star, as well as Josh Giddey and Jalen Williams being named rising stars but already seeing the rare NBA flex used to put the organization on National Television.

Unlike other leagues, like the NFL, the NBA hardly utilizes the flex method, especially before the All-Star break. However, that is precisely what they did for this scrappy young Thunder team a few weeks ago when they traveled to Miami to take on the Heat.

Now, the OKC Thunder will again be playing on TNT, this time thanks to the timing of their trip to L.A. to take on the Lakers, and it coinciding with LeBron James on the brink of breaking the scoring record. Nevertheless, this will still be a great matchup, independent of this historic chase.

Since the team relocated to Oklahoma City, the fanbase has been treated to a lot of NBA history, and this could be another notch in that belt. Either way, no matter the reason, it is awesome for this young team to be put on the biggest stage and play in a game with as wild of an atmosphere as Tuesday night in L.A. will have to offer.
