3 options for the OKC Thunder with the 12th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft
By Rylan Stiles
Gradey Dick is more than a sharpshooter and could impact the OKC Thunder significantly.
The Oklahoma City Thunder need to improve their roster in this draft, and one of the biggest areas of improvement is equipping this team with more shooting. When Mark Daigneault threw out lineups that focused on three-point shooting, it was clear how that helped OKC’s most important players, such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Gradey Dick is being treated as if he can only shoot when that just happens to be his best skill. The Kansas product is the best shooter in the draft and the most projectable shooter in this draft. He can repeat his jumper consistently, no matter the situation he is in off the dribble, the catch, in transition, or in traffic, and he can get the shot off in the blink of an eye.
Though along with his 40 percent marksmanship from beyond the arc, the 19-year-old, who was the Gatorade Player of the Year out of High School, has an excellent feel for the game as a connective passer. He is constantly moving, which opens up relocation threes and a high-level cutting ability.
On defense, while Gradey Dick will not be an elite point-of-attack defender, he rotates, has a high motor, and plays good off-ball defense to allow himself to stay on the floor in a team construct on that end of the floor.
His hustle and motor keep plays alive, save possessions, and contribute to winning plays. While his three-point shooting coming off screens, off the catch, and off the dribble jumpers are his calling card, that is not the only thing he brings to the table.
This is another name that might not slip to 12, and as a reminder, if your favorite name is missing from this list, fear not. They will be covered soon on Thunderous Intentions, so continue to check back! Also, comment below on who you want to read about next!
