3 Oklahoma City Thunder trades to get Shai Gilgeous-Alexander a co-star
By Jack Simone
The Oklahoma City Thunder took a massive leap forward this season when no one expected them to. Before the season began, many projected the Thunder to be a bottom-tier team in the NBA, but they ended up making the Play-In Tournament.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander earned All-NBA First Team honors for his play, and he deserved it. If the Thunder were a playoff team, he would have been a serious contender for the MVP award.
Outside of Gilgeous-Alexander, other guys stepped up, too. Jalen Williams emerged as one of the best rookies in his class, Jaylin Williams put together a solid year, and obviously, Josh Giddey, Lu Dort, and Isaiah Joe did their things.
They have a great future and, led by Gilgeous-Alexander, could quickly transform into a consistent playoff team. But what if the Thunder wanted to take things a step further?
As noted, Gilgeous-Alexander is an MVP-caliber player. He’s ready to lead the Thunder to the postseason and lead them on a championship run in the right situation. He’s just that good.
So, what if the Thunder made a trade this summer to get him a co-star?
In reality, this seems unlikely. The Thunder have been extremely patient with their approach thus far and they probably won’t change their mindset in that regard.
However, with a few teams around the league potentially looking to hit the reset button, this could be Oklahoma City’s best chance to get in on the action and get Gilgeous-Alexander a co-star.
If the Thunder do decide to go all-in and push a few of their chips on the table, here are some potential trades they could consider.
