Chet Holmgren perfectly describes teaming up with SGA
By Rylan Stiles
The Oklahoma City Thunder began their Training Camp on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the 2023-24 NBA season. This training camp has a different excitement level to it. Not only did Oklahoma City rattle off 40 wins a year ago, a 16-win increase, with a trip to the play-in, but they got better this offseason. 2nd overall pick from the 2022 NBA Draft, Chet Holmgren, is set to make his NBA debut after being sidelined all of last season.
In August of 2022, Holmgren suffered a Lisfranc Fracture during a pro-am event in Seattle. That knocked him out for the entire 2022-23 season, including training camp. Now, after his rehab process, Chet Holmgren was able to participate in his first NBA Training Camp.
Chet Holmgren had the perfect phrase to describe his partnership with OKC Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Following the conclusion of the Thunder’s first day of Training Camp on Tuesday, the assembled media was able to catch up with Chet Holmgren. The seven-footer was asked how it felt to be back out there. He reassured us that he does not think about the injury when he is playing, allowing him to play freely.
When Chet Holmgren was asked what it was like to be on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s team, specifically what that dynamic looks like, Holmgren exclaimed, “Exciting!” with a smirk and a chuckle.
OKC Thunder fans have been sitting on the edge of their seat waiting for that duo to share the floor together. Now, in it is just days away, with the team’s first preseason game set for Monday, October 9th. That matchup will have a bit more juice to it than a regular preseason game with Victor Wembanyama coming to town.
