Chet Holmgren tracking to play against Victor Wembanyama Monday
By Rylan Stiles
The OKC Thunder open up their preseason schedule on Monday against the San Antonio Spurs. While Aleksej Pokusevski is still sidelined with an ankle injury he sustained during an offseason workout just days before training camp, I asked Mark Daigneault for an updated status on the rest of the Thunder roster, including Chet Holmgren.
The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Chet Holmgren with the 2nd pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. In August before his first season, Holmgren suffered a Lisfranc Fracture, which held him out the entire 2022-23 NBA season. Now, a year removed from injury, Chet Holmgren is finally ready for his NBA debut.
Mark Daigneault confirms the OKC Thunder are tracking to be healthy on Monday against Victor Wembanyama, including Chet Holmgren.
With Media Day behind us, we are full force into Training Camp at the OKC Thunder practice facility. After four days in a row, Saturday will mark an off day for the Thunder. The team will return to camp on Sunday before Monday’s preseason opener in the Paycom Center.
Monday night is a little different. While still a regular season game, the debut of Chet Holmgren, Cason Wallace, Keyontae Johnson, and Vasilije Micic will have the Paycom Center buzzing with excitement. Then, you throw in Victor Wembanyama’s NBA debut on top of it. The prospect most compared to LeBron James throughout the predraft process this past cycle.
Monday has a chance to be the rare memorable preseason game. Following Friday’s practice, with just one standing between the Thunder and their first game, I asked Mark Daigneault if the team is still tracking to have everyone available on Monday Night.
While Aleksej Pokusevski will be sidelined, the rest of their roster will be available to participate in Monday’s game. Even if Chet Holmgren only gets a few minutes, it will be worth it for the Thunder faithful to get to see the highest pick in this rebuild in action.
