The OKC Thunder fanbase is sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for Chet Holmgren’s debut, which is over a year in the making. Thunder fans will get their first look at Chet Holmgren in a Thunder uniform in the Paycom Center on Monday, October 9th, against the San Antonio Spurs and Victor Wembanyama. While this will likely be a brief appearance, it will still go a long way in satisfying the fanbase.
Monday will represent a sigh of relief that Chet Holmgren is on the hardwood. The highest draft pick of this rebuild and the lone top-five pick, stepping on the floor to begin his NBA journey, will be surreal. Now, he will do it opposite of Victor Wembanyama. He is a fellow Generational Big Man prospect, though Wembanyama hype reached LeBron James levels during the predraft process.
Mark Daigneault gives a long lean on what position Chet Holmgren will play as his preseason debut draws near.
The NBA has not shied away from this budding rivalry between Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama, pitting them against each other in their preseason debuts. Mark Daigneault was asked about Chet Holmgren during his training camp media session, and he gave a strong lean on where Holmgren will be lining up.
“We are not dumb,” the OKC Thunder bench boss said as he explained that the team will keep Chet Holmgren near the rim on the defensive end to utilize his generational rim protection. While many have questioned if Holmgren can be a center, the Thunder have remained firm in putting him at that five spot.
