Chet Holmgren calls out NBA stat keepers after record-setting night
By Rylan Stiles
The Oklahoma City Thunder saw Chet Holmgren dominate in his second NBA game. Holmgren delivered in game two after a solid NBA debut that left fans wanting just a tick more. Not only did he step up big time to lift Oklahoma City to a 2-0 record for the first time since 2016.
Chet Holmgren did not record a single block in his NBA debut but certainly made up for it in his second contest. Holmgren swatted away seven (7!) shots from the Cleveland Cavaliers. That was good enough to net Chet Holmgren the OKC Thunder rookie record for blocked shots in a game.
OKC Thunder big man Chet Holmgren calls out NBA stat keepers after record-breaking game against Cleveland.
Chet Holmgren posted a dominating stat line, going for 16 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, a steal, and seven blocks against Cleveland to pair with his 3-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc and just four missed shots on the night.
The OKC Thunder big man, 2nd overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, thought he should have had an additional block in this contest with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Holmgren quickly took to Twitter asking for the NBA to watch the tape, issuing a stat correction to give him his deserved eighth block. We have seen block controversies before.
Last season, the NBA fans revealed a grand conspiracy that the Memphis Grizzlies were fudging the numbers in Jaren Jackson Jr.’s favor in the FedEx Forum, where he collected an absurd amount of blocks in the friendly confines, especially against his road block numbers.
We will see if the NBA issues a stat correction for the OKC Thunder rookie, but no matter what, this was a record-setting night for Holmgren.
