Three games into the 2026-27 NBA season, former OKC Thunder wing Aaron Wiggins appears to have found a groove with the Atlanta Hawks. He is averaging 17.0 points off the pine while shooting a blistering 58.1 percent from the floor and 52.6 percent from deep.
He's excelling in his elevated role with his new squad and is showing Atlanta the kind of upside he displayed throughout his Thunder tenure when given ample time on the hardwood.
Every time Wiggins had an increased role in OKC, he succeeded. The Thunder have endured numerous injuries as a result of, and throughout, their elongated postseason runs over the past few years, and Wiggins was ready every time his number was called.
Since the start of the 2024-25 season, the veteran has had nine games in which he scored at least 20 points when playing 30-plus minutes.
With that being said, Wiggins was clearly set up for success when he was shipped to Atlanta. The Hawks had just made their way back into the playoff picture, but they had an obvious need for quality pieces beyond their starting five.
Early signs are showing Wiggins is taking full advantage of his new opportunity down in the ATL.
Thunder did right by Aaron Wiggins when forced to offload talent
The Thunder knew exactly what they were losing when they traded away Wiggins this past summer, but they didn't have much of a choice.
The writing was on the wall with the NBA's most recent CBA, and Wiggins was one of three key pieces offloaded by the franchise.
That being said, GM Sam Presti made sure to find an excellent home for Wiggins.
The wing seems to be fitting in nicely with the Hawks, and he has contributed heavily to their promising 2-1 start.
Thanks to his new role, he now gets to showcase his skill set for an entire year, without the possibility of getting phased out of the rotation as he did in Bricktown.
The Hawks are likely looking forward to seeing what their new scorer is capable of when given a bigger role in the rotation for a full season. He is off to a promising start, and he doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
The Thunder won't have to wait long for an on-court reunion with their beloved forward wing. Atlanta travels to Oklahoma City on November 18, where both Wiggins and Dort will surely get a standing ovation for their efforts while donning the blue and orange threads.
