The 2024-25 season is truly shaping up to be something special for this OKC Thunder team.
From their elite defensive efforts and two-way abilities to their league-leading 36-7 record, Oklahoma City appears to be destined for greatness this year and the odds-makers only seem to agree with such a sentiment.
Leading the charge throughout has been superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who, following a breakout 2023-24 campaign, finds himself amid an even more sensational run halfway through the year while dropping career-bests seemingly all across the board.
However, arguably the highlight of his season to date came Wednesday night against the Utah Jazz when the Thunder guard recorded a new career-high in points with 54 while leading the club to a hard-fought 123-114 win.
SGA is severely downplaying this feat. He quickly noted post-game that it was "nothing special" and even stated that he feltย he should have played better.
However, to fans, pundits, and even his own teammates, it's something that deserves to be celebrated. More notably, for Alex Caruso, his performance is just another reminder of how special of a run Gilgeous-Alexander is currently on, as he dropped a strong, two-word descriptor of the guard's play through this point in the year, bluntly labeling it as an "MVP season."

"I watch a lot of basketball. Whether it's the condensed highlights or real games I see the best players in the league and I've seen how everybody plays. His impact on both ends of the floor, efficiency -- he's playing like the best player in the world," Caruso said.
Following his 54-point outburst, Gilgeous-Alexander has officially taken over sole possession of the top scoring rank in the association with 32.0 points per night while adding on 6.1 assists, 5.4 rebounds, 2.1 steals, and 1.1 blocks on 53.0 percent shooting from the floor.
As things currently stand, the Thunder cornerstone is on pace toward becoming just the 10 player in NBA history to average 30 or more points in three straight seasons. More impressively, he's also en route to becoming just the second player in league history to average at least 31.0 points, 6.0 assists, and 2.0 steals while shooting 50 percent or better from the floor.
The only other player to do so: Michael Jordan.
After finishing second in last year's MVP race to Nikola Jokic, it's evident that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is out for blood during this follow-up campaign. Fortunately, it seems that his claim for this year's trophy continues to get stronger with every passing day, as he now finds himself ranking in as the favorite to take home to award come the conclusion of this season.
