Cason Wallace and Ajay Mitchell find themselves gearing up for contract years with the OKC Thunder, with the former entering the final season of his rookie-scale deal while the latter is coming into year two of his three-year deal with a club option for 2027-28.
Of course, as things currently stand, Wallace is eligible to sign a new rookie extension with the Thunder at any point between now and October 19, while Mitchell will feasibly have all of next summer to do so.
The recent Amen Thompson deal he signed with Houston only serves as a reminder that figuring out both of these ballers' contracts before they hit their respective free agency markets should be a must.

With the rise in league-wide revenue and the most updated CBA, player salaries are subsequently rising exponentially along the way.
A team like the cash-strapped, second-apron flirting Thunder can't afford to match dollar-for-dollar with other clubs interested in snatching up their more coveted free agents on the open market, which is why locking their more prized impending free agents into more team-friendly extensions when eligible is crucial, especially for guys like Wallace and Mitchell who, with every passing season, have only seemed to up their asking prices.
Thompson, a player with very similar credentials to Wallace, what with their respective All-Defensive recognitions, just netted a whopping $208 million with the Rockets over the course of five years. This kind of payday could be the new bar for what their own defensive stalwart will be coveting with his own extension, and is only bound to get even higher as the years go by.
Though it may be a lot of coin, ponying up before next month's deadline and committing to a similar deal may ultimately be the simplest way of holding onto Wallace for the long-term, as it keeps them from entering into a bidding war should they forego an extension and have him enter free agency next offseason.
While they may be fortunate to be a year away from having to make these same decisions with Mitchell, ultimately, the sentiment should be the same as it is for Wallace.
Both are widely regarded as young, rising stars in the this league who have carved out vital roles within Oklahoma City's championship-winning rotation.
Though finances may tight, keeping these two in Thunder blue for the long haul should be a top priority for Sam Presti and company, and signing them to extensions rather than duking it out against other prospective buyers in free agency is certainly the way to approach this situation.
