Thunder have only one logical option with their No. 12 pick in NBA Draft

The 2026 NBA Draft is now officially a week away and, should the OKC Thunder choose to hold onto their lone lottery pick on the night, there really only seems to be one logical player for them to target.

Though he may be on the older side compared to his incoming classmates at 23, Yaxel Lendeborg possesses both the established skills and high-stakes experience that, quite frankly, a more youthful prospect rarely has upon entering the association.

For an established champion and win-now club like the Thunder, such qualities could prove to be incredibly valuable right from the jump in his pro career.

As ESPN's Jeremy Woo revealed in his latest mock draft, where he had Oklahoma City snatching up the forward at 12 overall, Lendeborg is "drawing consideration from every team in this range," due to his perceived ability "to produce right away."

Lendeborg just wrapped up his one-and-done season at Michigan with tremendous averages of averages of 15.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks on 51.5 percent shooting from the floor and 37.2 percent shooting from deep while netting Big Ten All-Defensive Team and Big Ten Player of the Year honors while, most importantly, leading the Wolverines to an NCAA Championship.

Throughout his three-year Division One career, he demonstrated the length, athleticism, defensive versatility, and toughness necessary for his on-court abilities to translate to the NBA.

All things considered, there doesn't seem to be a more seamless fit for the Thunder in this year's draft than Yaxel Lendeborg.

If he's available when they're on the clock, Oklahoma City has to lock his services up.

Thunder very open about looking to make trades in NBA Draft

Though the Thunder should strongly consider selecting Lendeborg should they hold onto their 12 pick in the upcoming draft, it's far from a guarantee that they opt to remain at said spot on the board.

During his annual end-of-season press conference, GM Sam Presti told reporters that he and his staff are already actively scouring the trade market in regard to their draft picks this season, saying, "We try to move up every year. We try to get a price for what it would take for us to move out entirely, and then we also have contingencies to move back in the draft."

Including their lottery pick, the rights of which were received in the 2019 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander deal with the Clippers, the Thunder own two total selections in the first round of this year's draft alone, with the second clocking in at 17 on the night (via Philadelphia).

They also own the rights to an early second-round pick at 37 overall (via Dallas).

Considering they already have 15 players attached to contracts heading into next season as is, unless they make some sort of move to part ways with one of their full-time players, there's no feasible way the Thunder will be able to use all three of their incoming picks on themselves.

Because of this, the popular belief is that OKC will look to make a deal involving some of their capital. Which ones and what said deal could wind up looking like is truly anyone's guess at this point.
