With this in mind, it should go without saying that their recent signing of Christoph Tilly should by no means be overlooked.
Sam Presti and company floated the big man a training camp invite via an Exhibit-10 contract this past Monday. He came into the pros this June undrafted after playing four years at the collegiate level, his latest with the Ohio State Buckeyes, where he posted 11.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists on 47.9 percent shooting from the floor in 32 games.
Though far from game-changing production, Tilly provided enough flashes serving as a sturdy frontcourt presence what with his 7-foot, 240-pound frame and soft touch around the rim for the Thunder to provide him with playing time on their Summer League squad (averaged 5.0 points and 2.7 rebounds through three games) and, now, another shot to prove himself in training camp.
Thunder still have roster spot up for grabs
As a result of all the moves they made this summer, the Thunder find themselves with one roster spot still up for the taking.
Now, while league rules clearly state Oklahoma City is more than allowed to play this coming season with their current total of 14 men on the depth chart, finding a quality player to fill the 15 spot on this title-aspiring Thunder squad should be high on Presti's to-do list.
According to team media member and beat writer Rylan Stiles, this slot may very well end up being filled by one of the several Exhibit-10 players slated to join OKC in camp.
There's no telling which direction Oklahoma City will choose to go when it comes to adding another player to their roster. Whether it's signing another center in Tilly, a more traditional two like Josh Dix, or perhaps a two-way wing like Otega Oweh, it seems the Thunder have a ton of positions they will be choosing from.
Fortunately, considering their status atop the Western Conference standings and, frankly, the league as a whole, what with their star-studded roster, they can afford to play the long game while trying to figure out their best approach forward.
