There's an argument to be made that no star in the NBA understands the current situation Luka Doncic is going through more than OKC Thunder cornerstone, Jalen Williams.

2025-26 has been a season plagued by injuries for the All-NBA forward, with his most maddening run-in with the injury bug coming in the form of a nagging hamstring strain that he only recently returned from a second, multi-week absence from.

During Thursday's bout between the Lakers and Thunder, Doncic appeared to have sustained a grueling ailment of a similar ilk, as he collapsed in agony on the sidelines early on in the third period after stopping abruptly on a drive attempt.

He went straight to the locker room and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Following OKC's 139-96 blowout win, Williams told reporters that it was "spooky" for him to witness first-hand another star going down with a hamstring issue, and said "I feel really bad for him" because, point-blank, "that injury sucks."

Thunder star wishes Luka 'speedy recovery' from well-known ailment

Williams would continue on to note that adding his bouts with hamstring flare-ups to his recovery from a surgically repaired wrist has been "the hardest part" of this year's campaign.

"Just like, not playing, playing, then you get into a rhythm, and then I miss two games where I've been relatively healthy my whole entire career... I think the biggest thing has been trying to get back within the flow of the team and get the rest of my steps back," Williams said.

J-Dub was shelved for the first 19 games of the year after undergoing and recovering from an operation he underwent back in July to repair the scapholunate ligament in his shooting hand.

Less than two months after making his season debut on November 28, he went down with a tweaked hamstring during a mid-January matchup against the Miami Heat, and has missed a total of 26 games as a direct result.

Generally speaking, hamstring injuries are rather tricky to recover from, as they involve three specific muscles (biceps femoris, semitendinosus, and semimembranosus) that are constantly used when a person is in motion.

Even the slightest movement can activate it, which, needless to say, disrupts the rest necessary for a full recovery.

Not only should this situation with Doncic be seen as a crushing blow to one of the game's best players, but also a harrowing reminder that the Thunder must not rush Williams back to his full workload until it's absolutely necessary.

Simply put, hamstring injuries are nothing to take shortcuts with when it comes to recovery.
