The OKC Thunder surprised the masses on Wednesday, as they struck on arguably the best deal made so far ahead of the February 5 deadline by landing Jared McCain from the Philadelphia 76ers.

By offloading a low-level first-round pick along with three future seconds, Sam Presti and company managed to bring in some much-needed guard depth and long-range shooting help in one fell swoop.

Now, with mere hours remaining between now and the 3 p.m. (ET) cut-off, it seems that some in-the-know pundits are under the impression that Oklahoma City may not be done with their wheeling and dealing ways, as Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor recently revealed that they could still be hungry for at least one more move.

Thunder rumored to be in search of a big man ahead of trade deadline

While discussing how the addition of McCain "further bolsters" Oklahoma City's rotation as they look to win their second straight NBA Championship here in 2026, the NBA analyst noted during a deadline week edition of the Kevin O'Connor Show that there are "rumors that the Thunder could be chasing another depth big man."

Considering the widespread injuries that have plagued this roster over the last few years, adding extra insurance policies could be an ideal aim for Presti ahead of the deadline, especially with the rocky health of Isaiah Hartenstein throughout his tenure so far in the Sooner State.

Though All-Star Chet Holmgren has fortunately managed to remain relatively healthy here in 2025-26, I-Hart and Jaylin Williams have both struggled mightily in this department, as they've missed a combined 40 games over the course of 52.

Now, while the "what" as far as positions are concerned may have already been determined when it comes to possible trade endeavors, the "who" when it comes to target options is anyone's guess.

Over the first half of the season, a number of names have been floated as potential candidates. From young prospects buried on their respective team's roster, like Yves Missi, to former All-Stars who can provide experience and leadership, such as Kevin Love, there has been a bevy of talent linked to the Thunder as of late.

Prior to the McCain deal, it was widely believed that OKC would once again stand pat during this year's trade deadline, as its front office has historically shied away from making in-season moves.

However, now that the seal is already broken, it appears they may be looking to keep up their unorthodox approach to trade season by pursuing some additional big man depth.
