Just a few days ago, it was officially announced that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would be representing the OKC Thunder in the annual NBA All-Star Game for the third straight season, his second as a starter.
Less than a week later, news broke yet again that the franchise will be sending another one of their players out to the San Fransisco-based festivities... though it's not necessarily the one fans have been awaiting word about.
Thunder to send second player to All-Star Weekend, await word on J-Dub
On Tuesday afternoon, the NBA revealed the rosters for the 2025 Rising Stars Challenge and found listed on the sophomore's roster is Cason Wallace (comically misspelled as Carson...).
Following an All-Rookie Second-Team finish to 2023-24, the former 10 overall selection is amid yet another impressive season. Through 44 games played, the point guard is posting highly reliable two-way averages of 7.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.7 steals on 44.9 percent shooting from the floor and is logging the fifth-most minutes per game on this top-seeded Thunder team.
With this selection, Wallace will be participating in his second straight Rookie vs. Sophomore exhibition while the Thunder will have two representatives of the franchise taking part in festivities during the illustrious weekend.
Of course, even with this exciting news break concerning the second-year guard, many are still awaiting further word on whether the team will eventually be sending a third player to All-Star Weekend in Jalen Williams.
Putting forth a career-best year, the forward has been absolutely vital to Oklahoma City's successes thus far, as he's been heavily utilized both as a four and a five due to their wide-spread injury woes.
Despite playing out of position (a 6-foot-6 wing serving as a team's primary pivot is generally unheard of), Williams has still managed to drop all-time highs in points (21.0), assists (5.2), rebounds (5.5), and steals (1.8) and is boasting a sensational defensive rating of 104.
Among Thunder nation, it has been well known that the 23-year-old's efforts have warranted him consideration for receiving his first career nod, and, following the most recent voting returns, there seems to be a real possibility that the forward could make the cut.
The reserves for the All-Star game will be announced Thursday, January 28 at 6:30 p.m. (ET). Should Jalen Williams find his name selected, it will serve as the first time since 2019 that two Thunder players will take to the court for the headline event.
