Behind a 35-point effort on Thursday night, OKC Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finally surpassed Wilt Chamberlain's six-decade old streak of consecutive 20-point games with 127.
Needless to say, entering the history books is always a celebratory occasion, and one that takes the reins from such a legendary figure is all the more reason for the Oklahoma City cornerstone to be praised.
However, in classic Shai fashion, during his post-game presser, he couldn't help but shift the focus away from himself, telling reporters that the most important takeaway from the record is that "we've won throughout the streak."
During this stretch, which dates back to November 1, 2024, the Thunder have won 103 of 127 games (their latest a 104-102 win over the Celtics) and, most importantly, have gone on to win an NBA Championship.
Clearly, winning has been a direct result of Gilgeous-Alexander's storied efforts.
The rest of NBA falls in comparison to Thunder star's heroics
As Nikola Jokic recently said, following his Monday night clash with the Thunder, he's not quite sure if people fully realize "how hard" it is for someone to register 20 or more points in just 10 straight games, let alone 127.
Among those strewn across the league right now, there are only 15 total players who have active streaks of four or more games where they've logged 20-plus points.
If one were to combine the total number of games of the 14 that follow behind Gilgeous-Alexander's record-breaking streak, it would come out to 123-straight, which is still four fewer than the reigning MVP.
What's perhaps most impressive of all when it comes to this historic stretch is the fact that SGA has often needed just three quarters of play to compile such scoring totals.
Since starting the streak early on last season, the Thunder star has sat a total of 39 fourth quarters, roughly 30 percent of the games he's played, and has clinched the 20-point threshold before the final period even started roughly 90 percent of the time.
In his record-clinching showing against the Celtics, Shai had dropped 21 through the first three quarters alone.
With every passing game, Gilgeous-Alexander continues to strengthen his all-time legacy.
From being on pace to become the first player to have four-straight 30-point-per-game seasons since Michael Jordan to closing in on the second-highest true shooting percentage in a 30.0-plus point-per-game season behind only Stephen Curry, Shai's resume is already stacked with unbelievable credentials.
Thursday night's showing added yet another one to the list.
