People around the NBA are still trying to find the proper words to describe how good OKC Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been this year.

Fortunately, they may not have to search much longer, as the numbers have been speaking for themselves.

The latest unfathomable stat was one StatMuse dropped on X this past Thursday, where they posted a graphic depicting the most single-season points per game by a guard shooting at least 55.0 percent from the field.

Shai was number one, as he is currently averaging 32.0 points per game this year.

The next was Hall-of-Famer Magic Johnson. His highest scoring season when shooting at least 55.0 percent was just 18.3 points per game.

Shai GIlgeous-Alexander's season is something that has never been seen

The 13.7 point differential between Shai and the next-closest mark puts his consistency and skill level in an entirely new category. It's one thing to shoot 55.0 percent, but it's another thing to do it as a guard whose job is to run the floor, shoot from anywhere from the field, and stretch the defense to provide shot opportunities for their teammates.

And it's an entirely new thing altogether to shoot this efficiently with the amount of volume that Gilgeous-Alexander is.

For comparison, Michael Jordan never had a season in which he shot in 55.0 percent range. His most efficient season was in 1989, when he finished the campaign with a 53.8 percent clip. In that season, he averaged 31.5 points per game.

Thunder truly have a one-of-one type player in their backcourt

The truth of the matter is, the NBA has never seen a volume guard play as consistently and efficiently as SGA. If he closes out the season with numbers that resemble what he has now, he will be on his way to cementing himself as an all-time unique player.

With his team primed to make runs at the title for multiple years to come, Shai's prowess, combined with his team's dominance over the league, has him positioned to make a run at establishing himself as one of the best players ever.

The Thunder point guard now has minus-425 odds to win his second-straight MVP, according to FanDuel sportsbook, all but putting the award completely out of reach of anyone else in the league.

At this point, the only thing Shai is missing on his resume is longevity. If he continues this level of play well into his career, though, it is anybody's guess what will become of his legacy.
